Sectional Anatomy: Brain (1.5 credit hours)
This module reviews basic anatomic principles and related anatomic structures as they appear in axial (transversely-sectioned) CT images of the brain. The module proceeds from the vertex of the skull inferiorly through the base of the skull. Additional lateral and MRI images are used to assist in visualizing brain anatomy in the axial plane. Approved for Category A credits. Course expiration June 1, 2011.

This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. The ARRT does not allow CE activities such as internet courses, home study programs or directed readings to be repeated for CE credit in the same or any subsequent biennium.

At the conclusion of this module, the learner will be able to:
  1. Define and/or describe the following image planes: sagittal, coronal, axial, oblique.
  2. Describe the patient orientation in a normal axial cranial CT image.
  3. Describe the appearance of air, bone, cerebrospinal fluid, and neural tissue on a normal axial CT image.
  4. Name and describe the three meningeal layers found within the cranium.
  5. Identify cranial and facial bones, and their component parts on normal axial CT scans.
  6. Identify structures of the central nervous system on normal axial CT scans.
  7. Identify arterial and venous structures on normal axial CT scans.
