Professionalism, Ethics and the Law (1 credit hours)
This module concerning professionalism, ethics and law begins by exploring pertinent historical considerations of professionalism and important elements required for formal professional recognition. Professional practice expectations and the radiologic technology code of ethics are presented, as well as important ethical principles that serve as the foundation for morale conduct. Considerations regarding agency policy, law and ethical decision-making are also presented. Course Approval Expiration/End Date: June 1, 2010 Category A Credit

This activity may be available in multiple formats or from different sponsors. The ARRT does not allow CE activities such as internet courses, home study programs or directed readings to be repeated for CE credit in the same or any subsequent biennium.

Roxann DeLaet, RN, MS
Roxann DeLaet has over 25 years in the nursing field. She holds a masters degree in nursing and is currently a professor of Nursing and Allied Health at Sinclair Community College. Roxann has over 15 years experience in the educational field. She has been published and has made multiple professional presentations. Her clinical background focuses on critical care nursing.
After studying the information presented here, the learner will be able to:
  • Recognize important historical aspects of professional status especially related to radiologic technology.
  • Describe seven essential elements of a profession.
  • Describe key components of the Code of Ethics for radiologic technology.
  • Identify seven ethical principles and describe their relevance to the practice of radiologic technology.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of ethics committees.
  • Describe the relationship between ethics and law.
  • Identify the steps in ethical decision-making.
